It's not all bad. It's about how and why you use it.
Lately, after a long break from using social media, I decided to create a new FB profile and a new Gram one.
During the last months of my mother's illness, battling cancer, I was using social media to communicate with distant friends/relatives of the family. Many of them who live abroad were interested in updates concerning my mothers' demise and care at the end of her life. A lot of her friends were communicating via me to my mother and I was able to update her with their messages of love and care. After this I closed down my accounts.
I have joined a few groups, including Woodingdean Community, Woodingdean Players, Veganism UK, Violence against Women, The Independent (media), and The Poldark Fan Club.
I am not in touch with many people on Social media, a couple of old school mates, friends whom I do not see enough of - and it is nice to keep it small and simple.
The Poldark Fan Club seems to have evolved into a debating forum and I am very enthused to read about viewers (and readers) interpretations of characters and story lines. Everyday there are photos of scenes and characters for members to comment on and I enjoy reading them and commenting, Although I have not read the books, by Winston Graham, I followed the first adaptation avidly, in the 1970's on TV and I was hooked on the episodic drama then.
The books are always 'adapted' for TV viewing and this slightly changes the actual story, however, the characters are pretty true to the original and the 'purists' (who have read the books) lend a very different perspective. I base my commentary on the latest series and how I felt and reacted to the incidents, characters and storyline.
In effect, being a member of the Poldark fan Club is like being in a 'book club', where we all have intensely followed the story and all have plenty of discussion in regard to all of the episodes (chapters) It's enjoyable and fun. It was a brilliantly written, produced and acted series. Britain=produce the best period dramas. Fact.
It's a great forum to discuss ideas and perspectives and share and discuss. I like it.
Social media - keep it simple.
