You and yours

BBC Radio 4.

Topical issues. Scams and social problems, consumer and customer issues. I like this show.

You can buy anything online...including fake positive pregnancy tests. That's outrageous.

Today's story:

A man who was involved in a 'casual' relationship was caught out by a woman who claimed that she was pregnant by sending a photo of a pregnancy test reading 'positive'.

She then bought a fake positive pregnancy testing kit and showed the results that showed positive. The man already was suspicious and provided her with some real ones, which she did not use.

This story is actually sick. I cannot believe that these fake tests are advertised as 'joke' pregnancy tests. Yep. Telling someone that you are pregnant for a joke is not a fun trick, where's the joke in it? It enables women to try to manipulate men into some kind of commitment. That is not funny.

If a man shows (in behaviour) that he has no intention of committing to you, respect that and have enough self respect and confidence to walk away. You will only hurt yourself by hanging around. You will only humiliate yourself by staying with a noncommittal man. Hold on to the dignity that you still have, after humiliation. It might well hurt, but it's better than hurting yourself, and feeling humiliated. Trust me. I know.

To manipulate anyone in any way, well...you would have to ask yourself why? Lack of self-esteem or codependency, most likely. It reeks of desperation. No woman should feel desperate to be with someone. She always has herself, the most important person in her life. More than that, ladies, don't cheapen yourselves by hooking up with a man on a dating site. Chances are, he's looking for sex. Chances are, you'll oblige, if you are offering yourself in this way. Not classy.

I have done the social experiment, by having joined a site (years ago) and I saw the results. Of course, I did not meet up with any of the men who had noticed me. The social experiment was a lot of fun in observing male behaviour, and that's where the story ends.

So the fake positive pregnancy test story ends thus. The woman (clearly very psychologically unwell) maintained her story that she was pregnant, knowing that she was not.

Amazon and Ebay have had these fake positive pregnancy tests for sale. Ebay maintains that they are now banned for purchase, from consumer use. Amazon? I don't think so. I have aways preferred Ebay.
